Cerebellum development comes from the metencephalon, the anterior part of the hindbrain (rhombencephalon). As the hindbrain splits, the metencephalon forms structures including the cerebellum and the pons, while the myelencephalon becomes the medulla oblongata. The other regions have different destinies: the prosencephalon forms the forebrain, the mesencephalon becomes the midbrain, and the myelencephalon yields the medulla. So the cerebellum’s embryologic origin is the metencephalon.
